Los Angeles: Save the Date for Thursday August 29th!
My second book comes out next month and I’m sort of in a state of disbelief. I have two small asks for you, dear reader.
#1 REQUEST: If you’re in Los Angeles, please RSVP to come celebrate the launch of OUR SHOUTS ECHO at Reparations Club on Thursday August 29th!
RSVP here: https://rep.club/products/jade-adia-event
One of the dopest contemporary authors in the game aka Maurene Goo will be moderating our little chat. She’s written so many incredible books, but I will say that her latest novel Throwback is my personal favorite. I’m so honored to get to talk to her. She was nice enough to read an early copy of SHOUTS and wrote quite possibly the nicest blurb ever that almost made me cry
Anyway this will be a fun and casual lil event.
It would mean the world to me to see you there.
We’ll talk about first love, doomsday prepping, and how writing a very vulnerable story about a young girl struggling through her mental health journey who has a psychiatric service dog helped me finally adopt my own real-life service pup <3
^^ Chaya, named after the late great I-Chaya (Spock’s childhood emotional support pet sehlat from Star Trek lmfao). She also goes by Chaya Cat because despite being a “dog", she is actually a cat.
OUR SHOUTS ECHO BOOK LAUNCH
Thursday August 29th at 7pm
Reparations Club (3054 S Victoria Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90016)

REQUEST #2:
Please pre-order OUR SHOUTS ECHO so that my publisher won’t think I’m a flop!! lol
If you pre-order from Casita Bookstore, Reparations Club or Octavia’s Bookshelf** you’ll receive a signed book + TWO limited edition stickers*!
Pre-orders are the #1 way to support up-and-coming authors. It’s kind of insane how much influence pre-order numbers have on a life of a book, but the good thing is that we’re dealing with small numbers here -- quite literally every single individual order (single digits, forreal) matters!
I will also very quietly admit that it may or may not be my birthday (but birthdays freak me out so don’t mention it, this secret stays between us!!) SO it’d be a very nice cool kind gift to pre-order the book.
** While you’re at it, if you’re feeling extra generous, please donate to Octavia’s Bookshelf GoFundMe to help keep this amazing store open!

And speaking of this book x birthdays, here’s a little excerpt from a chapter where the main character Niarah is caught hiding at her new friend’s birthday party and she finally for the first time admits that she’s struggling… but also realizes that she’s not alone in it.
CW: fictional conversation about suicidal ideation
DESPITE THE TONE OF EXCERPT, THE BOOK IS ACTUALLY QUITE FUNNY, I PROMISE.
But yeah, this scene is just the tip of the iceberg of the mental health conversations in this book that later dive much much deeper, so strap in, homies: we’re going there.
THERE GOES MY PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS
I went to San Diego earlier this month to accept the John Steptoe New Talent Award from the Coretta Scott King Books Awards Committee. The event was incredible (even though I fully choked during my speech… like literally one of the most embarrassing moments of my adult life but wtv lol). Everyone was super nice. I love librarians. Books are magic.

Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism by Amanda Montell
Listening
It’s summer, so you know I’m in my midwest emo bag. This involves a heavy rotation of many of my favorite angsty screamy sparkly bands, but the song of the week is definitely Dodge Dart by Kind of Like Spitting
Watching
As a fan of Single’s Inferno and a SUPERFAN of Terrace House, I obviously devoured the first three episodes of the new Netflix reality show The Boyfriend. I have so many thoughts, mainly: (1) it’s fun, but I think the gamification of it makes it so that the show lacks the slowness and charm of Terrace House, (2) this is a super niche nerd take that I don’t know if anyone reading this newsletter will understand, but there is a romance developing between two house members that unfolds like a textbook Dick Grayson x Wally West fanfiction (AKA Robin x Kid Flash lol). I won’t elaborate, but if you know, you know. And if you happen to also reside in the same very niche Venn diagram of people who love both The Terrace House/The Boyfriend and DC superhero fandoms, please hit me up so we can discuss lmao
That’s it for now? Thank you, love you.
